Observe the AQI closely.
Short for “Air Quality Index”, AQI indicates the state of the atmospheric conditions. An ideal AQI should be 100 or below. However, in urban areas like Delhi, Delhi NCR, etc., the AQI typically falls between 350 and 490, which is considered dangerous. This can negatively impact the health of city dwellers and may increase the likelihood of chronic illnesses. Given that children possess lower immunity, they can be the first in a household to suffer from these ailments. Therefore, monitoring the AQI regularly is crucial. This will enable you to identify when the air quality is least harmful and when it reaches its most perilous levels. Consequently, you can plan your children's outdoor playtimes accordingly.
Always ensure they wear masks when outside.
In addition to their play sessions, it is vital that your child dons a mask whenever they go outdoors. This can significantly reduce the entry of airborne toxins into their lungs. Every child at our play preschool wears a mask when going outside. To encourage this as a routine, consider buying vibrant masks decorated with cartoon characters.
Choose fans instead of air conditioners.
Currently, nearly every Indian household is equipped with air conditioning units. When an AC is operational, it releases microorganisms along with dust and dirt into the atmosphere. This can be harmful to your child. Thus, it is advisable to use fans intermittently instead of air conditioning. This is our practice at our kindergarten and daycare.
